What's new

Manager Ratio Design Principle

You can now identify positions based on what percentage of their reports hold manager status. This design principle reveals what share of your total headcount and payroll is dedicated to managing, giving you a single measure of organizational overhead.

Ratio Design Principles Now Consider All Reports

Ratio design principles, such as Contractor Ratio and Experience Level Ratio, now account for every report beneath a position rather than only direct reports. This helps you more reliably identify pockets of the organization with insufficient entry-level staffing or an overrepresentation of executives.

Comment Indicators

You will now see comment indicators on nodes, in the changes view, and when selecting a scenario. This helps you quickly spot collaborator feedback. Selecting an indicator takes you straight to the related comments.

Additional Confirmation Modals

We’ve added confirmation modals for successfully updating access to a scenario and resolving comments. These modals ensure your changes are intentional and reduce accidental edits.

Usage Data for Organization Design

We’ve added new objects to track user actions in Organization Design, giving you deeper insight into usage patterns and adoption. You can answer questions like: Which users are creating projects, how they're interacting with the organization structure, and if users are comparing scenarios when modeling changes. To access usage data, use the Actions metric in Explore. For more information, see Usage.

What's new

Max Reporting Layer and Max Chain Length Updates

We've updated hierarchy depth metrics in Organization Design to provide clearer insights into your organizational structures. Max chain length has replaced Max reporting layer as the standard display metric. Now, the metric definitions are as follows:

  • Max chain length: Measures the longest reporting chain length. A reporting chain is the number of positions between a manager and one of their reports.
  • Max reporting layer: Measures the deepest reporting layer. A position’s reporting layer is the number of positions between the position and the CEO.

Note: If you're interested in showing both Max chain length and Max reporting layer, contact Visier Technical Support. To ensure complete data accuracy across both metrics, we recommend this only if your Organization Design users are configured with security access to the full supervisory structure.

Exported PowerPoint File with Timestamp

When exporting to PowerPoint, your scenario file name will include an export date to avoid duplication.

What's new

Update Baseline

You can now update your project's foundational baseline data to reflect organizational changes while preserving your custom scenario work. Updating the baseline will identify any conflicts between your scenario edits and the updated baseline, providing an interactive, step-by-step UI to review and resolve them. For more information, see Update the Baseline.

Scenario Comparison

You can now explore and evaluate multiple approaches to solving organizational design challenges, such as restructuring teams to improve communication, reducing costs, or preparing for reorganizations. Users can create distinct scenarios for each strategy and compare them side-by-side to identify the optimal solution. For more information, see Create and Compare Scenarios.

Collaborate by Commenting

You can now share scenarios with collaborators and gather feedback through comments. Collaborators can comment directly on positions, organizations, and unassigned employees, or on the scenario as a whole, making it easy to ask questions and discuss proposed changes without altering the underlying data. For more information, see Add a Comment.

What's new

Export to PowerPoint Enhancements

We've made the following enhancements to exports:

  • We've updated the user interface so you can customize and configure your exports to include specific organization, position, and metric details. The update includes a new settings pane for choosing node detail levels and a summary pane that recaps your export configuration.
  • You can select if you want the baseline org structure to be included in your export. If selected, a chart slide will be automatically generated for it and included in the export.

Navigate to Node from Changes View

You can now navigate directly to a node from the Changes view. This allows you to easily jump back into the canvas and make quick edits to nodes.

Metric Breakdown Enhancements

We've made the following enhancements to metric breakdowns:

  • The metric picker now clearly separates metrics from design issues. Design issues will also have different columns in the breakdown such as Baseline Issues Resolved and New Issues.
  • You can now group by employee attributes such as Employment Status and Performance Rating.
  • When looking at the Vacant Positions metric, employee attributes are not available as a group by option to prevent invalid data combinations.

What's new

Design Principles

Administrators with the Organization Design Administrator capability can create design principles to define the organizational rules users should follow. Design principles let you set quantitative and qualitative guardrails (such as span of control limits, pay differentials, staff ratios, and time zone alignment) that are evaluated against your organizational data. When designing their org structure, users will instantly see the number of issues that violate a principle. By turning on highlighting, they can pinpoint exactly where these issues occur, making it easy to identify and fix them at a glance. For more information, see Create a Design Principle.

Updated Organization View

In Organizations view, you can now remove an organization and add positions to an organization. To add positions, simply drag them directly from the Positions or No Organization panels straight into any organization. For more information, see "Remove organizations" in Design by Organization.

Node Customization

You can now customize the appearance of nodes in both Organizations and Positions views. You can customize node sizes as well as the information that appears such as key metrics, employee and position details, and more. For more information, see "Customize nodes" in Design by Organization.

Focus on Position

You can now focus on specific positions within an org structure by double-clicking a node, bringing direct reports up horizontally for a clearer view. This eliminates extra noise from the rest of the hierarchy, making it easier to walk through specific team structures with others. For more information, see "Focus on position" in Design by Position.

Plan Creation Filtering

When creating a new org structure, you can now select multiple starting points to view specific teams side by side. Additionally, you can refine your position scope by choosing whether to apply your organization's default filter context. For example, these filters typically exclude specific worker types, such as contingent workers. For more information, see "Create an organizational structure" in Organization Design.

Export Scenario for Presentations

You can now export to PowerPoint. The export generates PowerPoint objects that you can easily edit post-export. For more information, see Organization Design.
